CHASE Your Dreams: Discovering Health Careers

The Discovering Health Careers internship is a six-week paid summer internship to local Latino high school students, between the ages 17 to 19, and are chosen from a number of underserved Chicago public high schools and must be bilingual.

Summer interns will have the opportunity to rotate through 27 departments including surgery, medical imaging, and the emergency department and will gain insight to a number of different health careers.

SAILS

Lurie Children’s SAILS (Supporting Adolescents with Independent Life Skills) program offers a 6-8 week paid program to teach teens to prepare for their future in work, college and managing their healthcare. There are also sessions for parents for more information and support.

Rush University Medical Center

REACH

The Rush Education and Career Hub (REACH) extends Rush’s legacy of support for Chicago school communities. Since 1990, thousands of students from pre-kindergarten through 12th grade have participated in science and math enrichment experiences. REACH integrates these learning experiences into a cradle-to-career pipeline with a mission to increase diversity in STEM/health care professions, developing the workforce of the future. Our goals are to increase high school graduation rates, college matriculation and interest in STEM/health care careers. REACH students will build skills for the 21st-century workforce, including communication, collaboration, critical thinking, creativity and leadership.

MedSTEM Internship

The Internship is a 6-week, paid summer internship program at Rush University Medical Center. Students will have hands-on learning experiences with departments and units in the hospital that that they plan to pursue as a career. They will also take college and career readiness courses, life skills and workforce skills development courses, and will have a chance to network with other students and healthcare professionals.

Whether you’re interested in mental health, allied health, entrepreneurship, finance, healthcare, law, media, research, or any other field, we help motivated high school students make the most of their summer, fall, and spring and make more informed decisions about college and career plans.

MedSTEM Pre-internship

The MedSTEM Pre-Internship is a 6-week, paid summer program at Rush University Medical Center. Students will split their time between hands-on learning experiences with departments or units in the hospital and classroom courses surrounding healthcare career exploration, workforce skill development, and researching real-world issues. Successful students in the Pre-Internship will be highly considered for the Internship Program.

Sinai Health System

Youth Workforce

The SCI Youth Workforce Internship is a work-based learning opportunity to see how classroom instruction connects to the world of work and future career opportunities. Work-Based Learning gives students the opportunity to learn a variety of skills by expanding the walls of classroom learning to include the community.

Students will work 20 hours per week for 6 weeks starting in June and ending in August. Students will need to apply through One Summer Chicago and Sinai.

Genesys Works

Genesys Works provides the opportunity for students to participate in a 14-month program, which includes an 8-week summer training program followed by a paid internship at a partner company.
