When the coronavirus pandemic struck last spring, Liz Abunaw worried it would be the end of her two-year-old grocery company, Forty Acres Fresh Market.

The monthly pop-up markets where Forty Acres sold produce on the West Side shut down, sales to caterers dried up and the handful of home delivery orders Forty Acres received each week weren’t enough to keep the business afloat.

Instead, its home delivery business increased tenfold. Now, Forty Acres plans to open a permanent store near a section of Austin that was considered a food desert even before one of the area’s only full-service grocery stores closed in December.
